Robert Andoh (Bob)
I was born to a father who was a professional photographer and a research fellow at African studies university of Ghana and I developed the interest for art in tender age of 4 years playing with colours and my love for colours was unbelievable.
I never had basic art training at school as I was sent to a business school to pursue business forcefully by my parent whiles I had the interest for art but, at the age of 16 I had a broken home and I ended up on the streets with no place to call my home, no food, cloth, shoes under my feet , no shelter and cold ground was my bed and rock was my pillow. I never give up in life but pulled my self together. I kept working hard on my art and music and i was doing very well.
However, I was able to register for A LEVEL art as a private student and passed with distinction, as i was awaiting my results I enrolled myself as an apprentice for wood carving for 2 years and worked as a wood carver for 3 years I really gained lots of experience and helped me with my sketching skills, I worked so hard on my sketching skills and I was so happy and enjoyed it . I kept working hard on my art and music and i was doing very well.
My interest for music since i was a child has been great and I enjoy playing the guitar.
I happened to meet a lecturer of art at from the University of Science and technology who had a mental health issues but was very good artist and painter. He was admitted to the psychiatric hospital, and I use to visit him. He gave me a basic introduction to oil colours and some techniques which helped me polish my painting and sketching skills. He inspired me so much with his skills in art and drove me to work hard to support the less privileged in society.
I developed an interest in painting with oil and acrylic and did lots of painting for sale and for charity. I had my first exhibition in 2002 at the wangara hotel in Ghana, and it was a success. That same year, I mounted a stand at the International Trade Fair Centre (GH).
I joined an architectural firm called Design Associates (GH)as an apprentice for architectural technician ship for 5 years and worked as a design presenter and draughtsman for 16 years and I was involved in the supervision and design of the Jubilee House of Ghana the presidential seat, the Kotoka International Airport car parking (GH)and other governmental projects.
I had the opportunity to move to London in 2009 to pursue my artistic ambition to a different level. I was commissioned by the Art Forum of the Royal Marsden Hospital (UK) to paint a portrait of William Marsden the founder of the Royal Marsden cancer Hospital, which I did on charity bases.
I had my first exhibition in the United Kingdom was 2010 at the Crystal Palace Town Hall (UK) and the same year at the Bethlehem Royal Hospital. In 2016 I had a solo exhibition at Croydon first floor space in the Whitgift Centre, 2019 I had another at the Parallax Art Fair at south Kensington town hall (UK), art gallery at events @ Mattewsyard (UK) and fashion meet music collective (UK) in 2021 which was a massive success. In 2024 did a painting of St Helier Hospital (UK) and donated as charity.
Art, Music and photography has been my backbone throughout my life journey, and generations after me will try to take the legacy to a different level.
